Cajun Country Cold Case Region encompasses Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, and Vermilion parishes, with a combined population of 625,524 according to the 2020 Decennial Census.

Stretching from the prairies of Evangeline, St. Landry, Acadia, and Jefferson Davis through Lafayette and the Bayou Teche country of St. Martin and Iberia to the marshes and Gulf Coast of Vermilion, the region lies at the heart of Louisiana’s Acadian heritage. Beginning in the eighteenth century, Acadian exiles settled throughout southern Louisiana, adapting to its prairies, bayous, wetlands, and existing communities. Over generations, those influences helped shape the distinctive Cajun culture for which the region became known, with French language and traditions, music, foodways, agriculture, fishing, and strong community ties remaining central to its identity.
